Founded on 22nd November 1991 by Dattopant Thengadi, SJM was established to protect India's economy, society, and cultural values — advocating for self-reliance and pushing back against unchecked globalisation.

Swarnim Bharatvarsh Foundation

Established in May 2023 as a Section 8 Company, SBF is the institutional implementation arm of SJM — legally compliant, CSR-1 registered, and eligible for government partnerships.

1991

SJM Founded

Swadeshi Jagaran Manch established on 22nd November 1991 by Dattopant Thengadi — a prominent RSS ideologue committed to protecting India's economic sovereignty.

1992

First Campaign

On 12th January 1992 — Swami Vivekanand's birthday — SJM launched its first major campaign against economic imperialism and unchecked foreign dominance over Indian markets.

2000s

National Expansion

Swadeshi Melas began spanning hundreds of districts across India, creating direct market access for lakhs of local producers, artisans, and SHGs.

2015+

Atmanirbhar Push

SJM scaled entrepreneurship through Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan, establishing 468 Swavalamban Kendras and supporting 13,800+ youth in employment.

2023

SBF Established

Swarnim Bharatvarsh Foundation incorporated as a Section 8 Company — the legal and institutional arm of SJM, enabling CSR and government partnerships.

2025

NE India Entry

First major Swadeshi Mela in North-East India held at Goalpara, Assam — marking SJM's strategic expansion into the region.

2026

Guwahati Mega Mela

A 10-day Swadeshi enterprise, innovation and development expo is proposed from 29 November 2026 at Veterinary Field, Khanapara, Guwahati, with 300+ proposed stalls.

The Pillars of the Swadeshi Movement

SJM operates through five major wings and affiliated bodies — each focused on a distinct dimension of the Swadeshi vision.

Swavalambi Bharat Abhiyan

A nationwide self-reliance campaign promoting entrepreneurship and self-employment — especially among youth, small producers, and traders. Operates through 468 Swavalamban Kendras and the My Digital SBA platform.

The research wing of SJM — dedicated to academic and policy studies on Swadeshi economics, civilisational values, and indigenous knowledge systems.

SJM's monthly journal published in Hindi and English — disseminating research, perspectives, and advocacy on Swadeshi economic policy and national self-reliance.
